Oklahoma City University Golfers Win Two Prestigious WGCA NAIA Awards

CORAL SPRINGS, Florida (June 5, 2023) – Maddi Kamas, sophomore at Oklahoma City University has received the 2022-23 PING WGCA Player of the Year and MaKayla Tyrrell, freshman at OCU, has received the 2022-23 WGCA Freshman of the Year Presented by Strackaline.

Prior to the NAIA Championship, Maddie Kamas had posted a 72.95 stroke average, which tops the NAIA, in 22 rounds this season. Kamas scooped up the SAC individual title, three victories, two second-place finishes and six top-three showings in nine tournaments. She has won three conference golfer of the week awards and NAIA player of the week for March 13-19. Kamas ranked in the league individual crown by one shot Monday and Tuesday at Waterchase Golf Club in Fort Worth, Texas, with a 69-72-74–215. In her career, she has taken two league individual championships, two all-SAC honors, seven weekly accolades from the conference, three national golfer of the week awards and six wins.  

Prior to the NAIA Championship, MaKayla Tyrrell owned a 75.30 scoring average in 20 rounds on the season. Tyrrell, a freshman from Southlake, Texas, majoring in marketing, has turned in three top-five finishes, including runner-up in the Kyle Blaser Invitational on March 27-28 and fourth in the SAC Championships. She nabbed all-tournament in the conference tournament.
