Daily Press Release

The 3rd Annual Pure Silk Women’s Collegiate Team Championship Presented by the National Golf Coaches Association, the most unique summertime national women’s amateur Championship, will be staged July 31 - August 2, 2012 at the Wedgewood Golf & Country Club in Powell, Ohio.

Two-person teams comprised of top current women’s collegiate golfers will compete. Each team pairs players from the same university in a 54-hole stroke play event.

The format of the Championship is Day 1 (July 31): Alternate Shot; Day 2 (Aug. 1): Best Ball; and Day 3 (Aug. 2): Aggregate Score of the two players.  Teams will be comprised of players from all levels of collegiate golf including Division I, Division II, Division III and NAIA programs.

Wedgewood Golf and Country Club, an 18-hole private facility, is considered to be one of the most challenging courses in Central Ohio. Opened in 1991, the golf course was designed by Robert Trent Jones, Jr. Jones stated that the course site is "in itself a thing of joy." While nature gave us the beauty, Mr. Jones gave it the form that is both exciting to play and exhilarating to view. It possesses a magical beauty that creates an excitement for all who play the game. The majestic trees, stone laden creeks, and mirror lakes provide a natural work of art unequaled in the area, while stirring a feeling of the game's history and tradition. The 49,500-square-foot Clubhouse offers a commanding view of both the ninth and eighteenth green and includes both formal and informal dining, men's and women's locker rooms, and a professionally staffed pro shop. In addition, the club has a 6,000-sq.-ft. fitness center with a beautiful view overlooking the golf course.

The tournament will benefit A Kid Again charity and a college-am will take place on Monday, July 30.
